Media from around the world are reporting the death of American athlete O.J. Simpson, who became famously embroiled in the notorious trial for the murder of his wife. He was 76 years old.

O.J. Simpson, the American NFL star best known for the high-profile trial in which he was acquitted of murder charges, has died at the age of 76.
"On April 10th, our father, Orenthal James Simpson, succumbed to his battle with cancer. His children and grandchildren surrounded him. During this transition, his family asks that you please respect their wishes for privacy and grace." - The family announced this on X.
From his early years, O.J. was recognized as a promising athlete, which was marked by high expectations. While at college, he even helped set a world record in the 4 × 100 m relay with his team. Simpson shined in the NFL, joining in 1969 and playing for the Buffalo Bills and the San Francisco 49ers. He wrapped up his football career after a decade, by which point he was the second all-time leading player in rushing yards. In 1973, he was honored as the NFL's Most Valuable Player.
In 1994, the former football star and actor was charged with the murder of his ex-wife, Nicole Brown, and her friend, Ron Goldman. Jealousy and revenge for Nicole's departure were suggested as motives. The trial, often called the "trial of the century," captivated the media. Simpson was represented by Robert Kardashian, father of Kim Kardashian.
Beyond football, Simpson later turned his focus to media, becoming a sports commentator and embarking on an acting career. Among his most notable roles was Police Officer Nordberg in the "The Naked Gun" comedy series. He also appeared in movies such as "Student Exchange," "Back to the Beach," and "Code Name: Alexa".
