Sweet rice with apples is a snack for children and a great idea for breakfast or an afternoon treat for adults. I know this very well because I sometimes enjoy it myself. Naturally, the kids eagerly joined me and even helped prepare this dish. It's a delightful way to eat something healthy and spend time together. And the rice with apples? What more can I say – it's delicious! Just like always.

Add to rice with apples

Despite a tried-and-true recipe that has been in my family for decades – and I suspect in yours, too – I decided to add one more interesting ingredient to my rice with apples. Enter walnuts – a treasure trove of nutritional value and incredible support for brain function. These nuts blend perfectly with the other ingredients. Simply chop them and add them to the mixture. Try it yourself – I guarantee you'll taste the difference. Enjoy!

Baked rice with apples, cinnamon, and walnuts

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup rice,
  • 2 lbs apples,
  • 2 cups milk,
  • 6 teaspoons sugar or sweetener,
  • 3 tablespoons butter + 1 tablespoon for baking,
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon,
  • A handful of walnuts,
  • A pinch of salt,
  • 1 package of vanilla sugar.

Preparation method:

  1. Cook the rice in milk with vanilla sugar, half of the regular sugar, 2 tablespoons of butter, and salt.
  2. The rice should be well-cooked after about 15 minutes on low heat (covered).
  3. Melt the remaining butter in a pan, add grated apples, sugar, and cinnamon. Fry for a few minutes.
  4. Finally, add chopped walnuts.
  5. Next, grease a baking dish and layer as follows: half of the rice, apples with cinnamon and walnuts, and finally, the other half of the rice. Add another tablespoon of butter on top.
  6. Bake the entire dish covered for about 20-25 minutes at 355°F.
  7. Serve with additional cinnamon and cream. It's ready!
