Moscow ramps up air defense for Victory Day amid high alert
On Thursday, May 9, in Moscow, a traditional parade will be held to commemorate the anniversary of the Soviet Union's victory over Nazi Germany. Anton Heraszczenko, an advisor to the Ukrainian Ministry of Internal Affairs, reports from Russian media that Moscow will enhance its air defense and deploy drone jammers for the event.
Victory Day, celebrated on May 9, stands as the most significant national holiday in the Russian Federation, bringing Russians together around Vladimir Putin. It marks the conclusion of the Great Patriotic War, a segment of World War II that spanned from June 22, 1941, with Nazi Germany's assault on the USSR, to May 9, 1945.
In mid-March, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu announced that the parade at Red Square in Moscow would feature over 9,000 soldiers and 75 pieces of military equipment. The Russian Air Force will also participate in the ceremony.
Moscow enhances air defense in preparation for Victory Day
According to Anton Heraszczenko, an advisor to the Ukrainian Ministry of Internal Affairs, quoting Russian media, Moscow will activate additional air defense and deploy advanced drone jammers on the day of the festivities.
Furthermore, the police are required to search all residential buildings located near specified roads and areas where crowds will gather.
Information about which foreign leaders will attend the Victory Day celebrations has not been released so far.
