Dramatic events of 2021
In May 2021, Keller called 911, reporting Campitelli's death several hours after she was shot. Police discovered that Keller had made several transactions with Campitelli's debit card, withdrawing hundreds of dollars. He was initially charged with first-degree murder, but thanks to a plea deal, the sentence was reduced to second-degree murder.
Campitelli's family organized a candlelight vigil and a social media campaign, #JusticeForRed, to pressure investigators. Alicia's mother, Debra Moore, emphasized that her daughter's death changed their family forever. "Our hearts are so broken every day," she said during the trial.
Alicia's father, Phil Campitelli, expressed regret that Keller did not receive the death penalty. He highlighted that his daughter lived by the golden rule and openly spoke about her sobriety, inspiring others. "Keller has no remorse," he stated.
