Migrant caravan races against time as Trump era looms

A caravan of migrants from Honduras, Venezuela, and other South American countries is heading toward the United States border. They are hurrying to arrive before January 20, the inauguration of the new U.S. President, Donald Trump. For them, it's a race against time.

According to tvn24.pl, the caravan of migrants is traveling through Mexico to reach the U.S. as quickly as possible. Throughout his election campaign, Trump promised to combat illegal immigration and mass migrations. However, the migrants hope they will be permitted to stay if they arrive on time.

- If Trump is watching us, if he is listening to us, I ask him to give us a chance. We are with children. We left our country not because we wanted to but because we had to. I am a nurse. I voted against Maduro and was fired, - admits Xavi Yiperi, an immigrant from Venezuela.

- Trump's victory worries us on the one hand, but on the other, I believe he truly has a heart and his own family. He fights for the good of his country. If he was elected, it means he must have something good in him, - says Elder Hernandez, an immigrant from Honduras.

According to tvn24.pl, Trump has already talked to the President of Mexico, who supposedly promised him that migrants traveling through Mexico would not reach the U.S. border. The caravan is accompanied by agents from the Mexican immigration office, who are encouraging people to turn back and return home.

The "border czar" is supposed to tackle the problem

Tom Homan, whom Trump has appointed as the "border czar," will supervise the security of U.S. borders on land, in the air, and at sea. He intends to fulfill the president-elect's campaign promise of mass deportation. Lower-ranking officials like Dawn Buckingham, Texas Land Commissioner, are eager to assist him.

She proposed using 1,235 acres of land that Texas repurchased from owners opposed to building a border wall to establish a detention and deportation management center for immigrants there.
