In the latest interview with NBC, Donald Trump reiterated that his priority during the initial weeks of his presidency will be "the largest deportation action in the nation's history." He stated that his team is already in discussions with private-sector companies to prepare for the deportation of over 11 million illegal immigrants. When asked about the cost of this operation, Trump commented that cost is not a concern.
"It’s not a question of a price tag. It’s not — really, we have no choice. When people have killed and murdered, when drug lords have destroyed countries, and now they’re going to go back to those countries because they’re not staying here. There is no price tag," Trump remarked, as quoted by NBC.
CNN points out that former head of the immigration department, Tom Homan, could play a significant role in migration-related issues. In a recent interview with CBS, Homan assured that the plans include "targeted arrests."
"Shock" in US immigration policy
CNN emphasizes that the Department of Homeland Security will manage the deportations. The portal writes, "They are already preparing for a shock in immigration policy. "
The average cost of merely transporting one migrant to their country of origin is nearly $2,000. Additionally, costs are associated with locating, detaining, and verifying such individuals. The total logistics cost for just one person is around $11,000.
