The tech giant is intensifying its work on humanoid robots within Reality Labs. The company plans to design robots that will support people with everyday household tasks. Is this another step toward the future? Will seeing a robotic assistant soon become commonplace?

Meta aims to develop its humanoid robots, initially targeting tasks related to household chores. The company also intends to advance artificial intelligence, sensors, and software for robots produced by other companies. Partnerships are currently underway with companies such as Unitree Robotics and Figure A.

AI as Meta's pillar

The goal of the investment is to strengthen key artificial intelligence models like Llama and to develop programs related to mixed and augmented reality. Although the company is allocating billions to AI development, progress in the field of humanoid robots has been slow.

While achievements in language-related AI are significant, they do not yet translate into a better understanding of the physical world by robots. Meta has long been involved in research on integrating artificial intelligence with robotics, striving to create AI assistants that can effectively interact with their surroundings.

Competition isn't sleeping

The company faces challenges from competitors, including Tesla, whose CEO Elon Musk has announced the introduction of the Optimus robot. Tesla plans to introduce prototypes in factories by the end of 2025, with production starting in 2026. Musk predicts that Optimus will help the company achieve a valuation of 25 trillion dollars.
