Macron's call interrupts Zelensky's media briefing
An unexpected phone call interrupted Volodymyr Zelensky's statement to journalists. The Ukrainian president answered, then apologized to the caller, informing him that he would call back in about ten minutes. It turned out that the call was from the President of France, Emmanuel Macron.
A portion of Volodymyr Zelensky's statement to journalists was published online, which was unexpectedly interrupted by a phone call that the Ukrainian president chose to answer.
As it soon became clear, the caller was the President of France, Emmanuel Macron. Zelensky addressed him immediately after answering the call. "Sorry Emmanuel... I just have a conversation with some journalists. Can I ring you back in some minutes, 15-20 minutes? Please, thank you, Emmanuel" he said to the French leader.
The recording also shows Zelensky's statement right after the very brief conversation ended. Zelensky mentioned that he had just talked with President Macron. He added that both leaders are supposed to have phone conversations roughly once a day.
Emmanuel Macron spoke with Volodymyr Zelensky on various occasions, including right after a disagreement that occurred at the White House at the end of February.
During the meeting between Trump and Zelensky, a sudden dispute arose between the leaders. The previously planned signing of the bilateral U.S.-Ukrainian agreement on minerals was postponed, and Zelensky left the White House. Shortly afterward, the Élysée Palace reported that President Emmanuel Macron spoke with the leader of Ukraine.
On Monday this week, Volodymyr Zelensky also informed of a phone conversation with French President Emmanuel Macron. They were to discuss, among other topics, a conversation scheduled for Tuesday between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin. Referring to the conversation with the Ukrainian president, Macron posted that day on platform X.
