Sometimes, it’s not worth revisiting classic films and making remakes, as the creators of "The Crow" with Bill Skarsgard and FKA Twigs discovered. The production received almost no interest from audiences worldwide, as evidenced by the box office takings. The film had a budget of 50 million dollars, but just a few days after its release, it had earned only 9.7 million dollars. Director Fede Alvarez, who successfully introduced a new story in the "Alien" series, also served up a blast from the past. "Alien: Romulus," which cost 80 million dollars, has already grossed over 220 million dollars worldwide. Now, audiences can look forward to a new "Nosferatu."
Lily-Rose Depp terrifies in "Nosferatu"
As mentioned earlier, many people eagerly await the new version of "Nosferatu," which will appear in theaters thanks to Robert Eggers. "'Nosferatu' is a gothic tale of obsession between a haunted young woman and the terrifying vampire who becomes infatuated with her, causing unimaginable horror," reads the producer's description.
The first trailer for Eggers’s film is already out. In just 15 hours, it amassed more than 3 million views on YouTube, and the count is still rising. "This is exactly how a vampire horror should look. Suspense and lots of fear. A beautiful horror and the best monster," wrote one user under the video. It seems Eggers will have us covering our eyes in theaters.
The production is still cranking up the excitement. Not all intense scenes were revealed in the trailer. To remind audiences why they should anticipate this horror film, a new photo from the "Nosferatu" set has been released online, featuring Johnny Depp's bloodied daughter.
"He is coming," reads the brief caption, while the comments are flooded with praises about how dark and menacing the new take on the classic vampire tale looks.
There has been talk of Eggers tackling "Nosferatu" since 2015. The film was supposed to be made earlier and be his second project. However, something held it back. "It's disgusting, blasphemous, and selfish for a filmmaker like me to make 'Nosferatu' as a second film. I really planned to wait, but fate had other plans," he commented. The film didn’t come together quickly, and Eggers even threatened in the media that he might not finish it. The "sign" was that Anya Taylor-Joy, Eggers's first choice for the lead role, couldn't take on the part.
