Layoffs hit warren truck factory as RAM 1500 classic ends production

The reason for the layoffs is the end of production of the classic RAM 1500. The factory will switch from a two-shift system to a single-shift system.
The production of the RAM 1500 Classic is officially ending. This is a sad moment for the workers at the Warren Truck factory in Detroit, who are facing mass layoffs.
Reuters reported that the cuts will begin on October 8. The plant will then switch to a single-shift system, which requires fewer employees.
Approximately 2,450 people are expected to lose their jobs, most of them members of the United Auto Workers union. According to Reuters, those laid off can expect 52 weeks of additional unemployment benefits and transitional assistance. They will also be covered by two years of health insurance.
The two remaining models—the Jeep Wagoneer and the new RAM 1500—will continue to be produced as usual. Stellantis does not intend to discontinue these models for now.
