Hamas leader and political bureau member Izzat al-Risheq stated that Benjamin Netanyahu’s decision to resume the war amounts to sacrificing prisoners and effectively sentencing them to death.
He emphasized in a statement quoted by CNN that the enemy will not accomplish through negotiations what it failed to achieve through war and destruction.
Israel conducts massive shelling
The Israeli military and security agency announced that they are carrying out widespread strikes on Hamas targets in the Gaza Strip. They stated that the renewed military action is a response to Hamas's repeated refusal to release Israeli hostages.
The ceasefire that had been in effect since January 19 expired at the beginning of March, as both sides could not reach an agreement. It was ultimately broken on Tuesday morning when Israel resumed large-scale bombings on the Gaza Strip.
According to the Ministry of Health in Gaza on Tuesday morning, as a result of the new night attacks by Israel, at least 300 people were killed, and hundreds were injured.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt confirmed to the media that the Israeli side had informed the Donald Trump administration of its intentions.
In total, 251 people were kidnapped from Israel in an attack carried out by Hamas on October 7, 2023.
