On Saturday evening, Iran targeted Israel with numerous drones. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) also reported Iranian missile activity. Air defence systems, including the well-known Iron Dome, have been activated in Jerusalem and Tel Aviv.
Following news of the attack, many Iranians rushed to gas stations to stock up on fuel, as seen in videos from Tehran circulating on social media. Additionally, footage from other Middle Eastern countries, such as Lebanon, has surfaced online.
However, not everyone in Tehran was seeking fuel. Some residents took to the streets to celebrate the attack on Israel, with social media capturing images of the celebrations.
The attack ends the matter
The Iranian attack was a retaliation for an Israeli assault on a diplomatic site in Damascus. According to Iran's permanent representation to the UN on the X platform, this response effectively closes the incident. Iran has also cautioned Israel and the US against further provocations.
"Conducted on the strength of Article 51 of the UN Charter pertaining to legitimate defense, Iran’s military action was in response to the Zionist regime’s aggression against our diplomatic premises in Damascus. The matter can be deemed concluded. However, should the Israeli regime make another mistake, Iran’s response will be considerably more severe. It is a conflict between Iran and the rogue Israeli regime, from which the U.S. MUST STAY AWAY!" the mission further declared.
Israeli officials have previously warned that they would respond to any Iranian retaliation.
The contentious Israeli strike on the Iranian site in Damascus occurred on April 1, resulting in the deaths of seven members of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards, including two senior commanders. Israel has contested claims that the targeted facility was a diplomatic site.
