Hamas rejects partial ceasefire

On Thursday evening, Hamas announced that it does not accept the Israeli proposal for a partial ceasefire. The organization expressed its readiness to release hostages from 2023, but only as part of a full peace agreement.

This decision was commented on by a spokesperson for the U.S. National Security Agency, who stated that Hamas is not seeking peace but rather maintaining violence.

Israeli conditions for peace

Israel proposed the release of 10 live hostages in exchange for the release of 1,231 Palestinian prisoners and the opening of crossings for humanitarian aid. Additionally, Israel called on Hamas to disarm, which would lead to the end of the conflict. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu emphasized that the war will not end until Hamas's military capabilities are eliminated.

Hamas leader Khalil al-Hayya stated that the organization will not be part of the policy of partial ceasefires. He accused Israel of abandoning previous agreements and imposing impossible conditions. Meanwhile, Minister Itamar Ben Gvir called for increased military pressure on Hamas, emphasizing that there will be no agreement or humanitarian aid until Hamas surrenders.

In the Gaza Strip, 24 hostages are still being held, and the Israeli army confirmed the death of 34 others. Israel demands the repatriation of their bodies and the remains of a soldier killed in 2014. Israeli society is divided on this issue, although the majority is in favor of ending the war in exchange for the release of hostages.

What's next in the conflict?

The situation in the region remains tense, and the lack of agreement between Hamas and Israel complicates the possibility of achieving lasting peace. Both sides face difficult decisions that could impact the future of the entire region.
