Mute Bourup Egede reacted to Donald Trump's statements after Trump claimed that the United States would take over Greenland "one way or the other." Trump has long discussed the need to acquire Greenland, asserting that it is necessary for U.S. national security.

As reported by ladbible.com, Greenland is an autonomous territory of the Kingdom of Denmark, which firmly rejects the possibility of selling the island to the U.S. Although Greenland has an independence movement, it does not seek to become another state of the U.S. In his speech before Congress on March 4, Trump once again expressed his desire to take over Greenland.

We strongly support your right to determine your own future, and if you choose, we welcome you into the United States of America. We will keep you safe, we will make you rich, and together, we will take Greenland to heights like you have never thought possible before - Trump stated, as quoted by ladbible.com.

Trump assured that his administration was "working with everybody involved" in Greenland despite the lack of interest from Greenland and Denmark. "But we need it really for international, for world security, and I think we’re going to get it. One way or the other, we’re going to get it," Trump said in Congress.

Firm response from Greenland

In response to Trump's remarks, Greenland's Prime Minister Mute Bourup Egede issued a statement emphasizing that "Kalaallit Nunaat is ours" (Kalaallit Nunaat is the Greenlandic name for the country).

We don't want to be Americans, nor Danes; We are Kalaallit. The Americans and their leader must understand that. We are not for sale and cannot simply be taken. Our future will be decided by us in Greenland - Egede stated.

Trump's idea of taking over Greenland opposes the will of the island's 56,000 residents, presenting a significant obstacle to his plans. Danish Foreign Minister Lars Lokke Rasmussen mentioned that he does not believe Greenland wants to become independent only to become an integrated part of America.
