Another brand is joining the world of endurance racing: Korean luxury brand Genesis, the high-end division of Hyundai. During the official premiere in Dubai, we were introduced to the Genesis GMR-001 hypercar and given the first details about the racing project.

The GMR-001 is built to meet LMDh class requirements, with support from Oreca and IDEC Sport. Three-time Le Mans winner André Lotterer and 2023 IMSA GTP champion Pipo Derrani will initially drive it. Cyril Abiteboul, former head of Renault Sport F1 and director of the Hyundai Shell Mobis World Rally Team, will lead the team.

As part of preparations for the full 2026 season, Genesis will compete in the European Le Mans Series in the LMP2 category next year. The team will feature Logan Sargeant, Jamie Chadwick, and Mathys Jaubert.

"Motorsport is a natural step in the evolution of the Genesis brand," said Luc Donckerwolke, Chief Creative Officer of Genesis. "We want to bring our 'Athletic Elegance' philosophy to global tracks, highlighting our bold, progressive, and distinctly Korean values."
