Frontier Airlines' fiery landing terror shocks passengers
Passengers on a Frontier Airlines flight from Orlando, Florida, to San Juan, Puerto Rico, experienced terrifying moments when their plane had to make an emergency landing. "A frightening experience," described one of the passengers.
The dangerous situation occurred on April 16, when the plane, after a hard initial landing in Puerto Rico, had to make another landing approach at Luis Marin International Airport.
The video shows part of the plane on fire
Melani Wharton, one of the passengers, described on Facebook that the plane landed in the worst possible way. "What a terrible experience. For a few minutes, I thought it was the end of our story here on Earth. The landing was horrible, aggressive, and at high speed, which caused one of the front tires to burst and catch fire. It all happened right outside my window," she wrote in the description of the video she posted on Facebook.
The shared video also shows flames near the wing of the plane, and in the background, you can hear a child crying.
The situation was managed thanks to the quick reaction of the pilot
In an interview with Puerto Rican WAPA, aviation disaster expert Luis Irizarry stated that the captain's quick reaction prevented a bigger tragedy.
Trevor Ault from "Good Morning America" reported that the first landing was so hard it left debris on the runway, which forced air traffic control to temporarily close the airport. Edwin Soto, another passenger, described how everyone started screaming when the plane hit the ground.
The Federal Aviation Administration confirmed that the Frontier Airlines plane made a second approach and landed safely at about 6:20 PM Eastern Time. Passengers were evacuated on the runway and transported to the terminal. The organization is conducting a further investigation into the matter.
