Russia points to Ukraine

Governor Vladimir Vladimirov expressed profound sorrow over the death of Zaur Aleksandrovich Gurciyev, a veteran of the so-called special military operation and a participant in the "Time of Heroes" initiative. He extended condolences to Gurciyev’s loved ones. According to Vladimirov, special and investigative units are currently active at the site, and the investigation is ongoing. All potential scenarios are being examined, including the possibility that the incident was a terrorist attack involving Ukrainian nationalists.

The "Time of Heroes" program is an initiative launched by the Kremlin in March 2024 to transform war veterans from Ukraine into a new administrative elite in Russia. The primary objective of the program is to integrate war veterans into civilian power structures, facilitating their transition to civilian life and fostering loyalty to the regime.

According to information published on the "Time of Heroes" project website, Gurciyev led an air operation during the assault on Mariupol. He reportedly developed his solutions for missile guidance technology, which allegedly significantly increased their accuracy and effectiveness, including during the strike on the Azov supply base.
