Egypt hotels distribute Russian newsletters, tourists alarmed

Ukrainian tourists are raising alarms that hotels in Egypt are distributing leaflets containing Russian propaganda. These materials misrepresent reality and promote the Kremlin's narrative.

Ukrainian tourists vacationing in Egyptian hotels report a troubling phenomenon: newsletters containing Russian propaganda are being distributed at the front desks. These newsletters offer distorted information about the war, supporting the Kremlin's narrative. "Good Morning News" newsletters have appeared in popular hotels in Sharm el-Sheikh and Hurghada since last year.

Egyptian hotels promote Russian propaganda

In the latest edition from March 24, 2025, tourists could read about attacks on Ukrainian forces in the Kyiv region. All the news in the newsletter is reprinted from the Russian agency Interfax. Interestingly, the propaganda is available not only in Russian but also in German, English, and French.

The British company KVH Media Group Ltd. is responsible for printing and publishing these materials. In the past, "Good Morning News" newsletters were mainly published in English and did not contain propaganda. Hotels such as Sunrise Resorts&Cruises and JAZ Hotel Group deny involvement in the production of these materials; however, they do not comment on their distribution.

Tourists have been complaining for a long time

Ukrainian tourists filed complaints about these newsletters back in December. Marina Kazakova, a specialist in visas and tour selection, informed News Ukraine that hotels deny publishing these newspapers but do not address their distribution. Jaz Aquamarine assured that it removed the newsletters and apologized to outraged guests.

The situation with Russian propaganda in Egyptian hotels is alarming. It underscores the importance of making informed choices about vacation destinations and staying vigilant about the information environment, even abroad. Mass complaints can be an effective tool to pressure the hotel industry to prevent the spread of hostile narratives in the future.
