When preparing the batter for the orange cake, be sure to follow the recommended amount of juice in the recipe. Similar to a lemon cake recipe, too much fruit juice can lead to a soggy cake. For decoration, consider using orange slices, candied peel, nuts, or coconut flakes.

Ideas for serving orange cake

Even one delicious addition can transform a simple orange cake into a masterpiece. One idea is to place a few orange slices on top of the cake. If you lay them out in thin slices on the batter before putting the cake in the oven, they will become embedded in the bake, adding a fantastic look and a touch of intriguing bitterness.

If you prefer to stick with sweeter flavor combinations, drizzle the cake with orange glaze. To make the frosting creamier, add melted white chocolate to the glaze. Another idea is to layer orange jelly on top—create a homemade version by mixing gelatin dissolved in warm water with orange juice. The cake also pairs wonderfully with orange mousse.

Orange cake recipe

An hour in advance, take all the ingredients out of the refrigerator. Allow the eggs and butter to reach room temperature.

Ingredients:

  • 7 oz butter
  • 7 oz powdered sugar
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 orange
  • 8.8 oz flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • optional: 7 oz powdered sugar for orange glaze

Instructions:

  1. Thoroughly wash and scald the orange. Grate the peel and squeeze the juice.
  2. Sift the flour into a separate bowl and mix with the baking powder.
  3. Beat the room temperature butter with the powdered sugar using a mixer until it's fluffy and light.
  4. Gradually add the eggs, mixing the batter constantly. Add orange zest—you can set aside some for the glaze if you plan to drizzle the cake with sweet glaze.
  5. Mix in the flour and baking powder. Add 3 oz of freshly squeezed orange juice and mix again.
  6. Transfer the batter to an 8-inch diameter springform pan lined with parchment paper.
  7. Bake in an oven preheated to 350°F for 60 minutes. Before removing, check with a wooden stick to see if it's baked through. If it is, remove and set on a rack to cool.

From the remaining orange juice and powdered sugar, you can make cake glaze. Add the juice to the sugar and mix until you achieve the desired consistency. Enhance the glaze's aromatic flavor with the reserved orange zest.
