Denmark has decided to enforce tighter regulations on tankers transporting oil from Russia. According to Kommersant, the new rules aim to improve environmental safety and safeguard sailors. The changes affect the port of Skagen-Red, where ship control will significantly increase.

This decision to tighten regulations stems from the rising number of aging tankers passing through the Danish straits.

They are like ticking time bombs

These vessels pose a heightened risk to the marine environment. Consequently, tankers will undergo more stringent inspections than other ships. In June 2024, Denmark's Foreign Minister, Lars Løkke Rasmussen, announced the possibility of blocking ships carrying Russian oil.

The Danish Straits are a crucial maritime route that connects the Baltic Sea with the global ocean.

For Russia, these straits serve as an important export route for oil from the ports of Ust-Luga and Primorsk. The regulatory changes aim to minimize the environmental risks of transporting oil through these waters.
