Las Vegas residents witnessed an unusual event when a cougar visited their yards. Surveillance cameras recorded the animal at night.

Unexpected guest

A cougar made its way across busy streets to reach residential areas near Boulder Highway. William Champion, a resident, noticed the animal after being alerted by his security system. He explained that his phone kept ringing, which usually only happens when his cameras detect something unusual. Upon checking, he was surprised to see the cougar had managed to get past his fence and security devices, according to FOX5.

The wild cat felt comfortable enough that after strolling among the garden furniture, it decided to rest and eventually fell asleep. "I am going from the timing on the footage, I think it was 3:27 it sat down in that corner, under the camera and then at 3:45 we see it get up and go for a walk, so it sat there and has a bit of a rest, had a nap, a big cat nap," Champion continued, describing what he saw on the recording. He added that after waking up, the animal jumped over to the neighbor’s yard.

Interestingly, during the cougar's visit, a dog sleeping in the yard did not notice anything.

An extraordinary visit

Although cougars are not uncommon in the Las Vegas Valley, they are typically found in the suburbs, not near the six-lane highway and buildings. "Nobody's ever seen anything like that in this area," admitted Champion, emphasizing that it was an extraordinary situation for all the residents.

The area where the cougar was recorded is located about half a mile from a channel connected to the Las Vegas Wash. The animal had to traverse populated neighborhoods and streets to reach the yards.
