The incident occurred on Wednesday in Las Vegas, in front of Donald Trump's hotel. According to CNN, the Tesla Cybertruck that exploded was rented by a 36-year-old special forces soldier. However, it has still not been determined if he was the one who died in the explosion.
The network, citing government officials, reported that the man was a Green Beret stationed in Germany with the 10th Special Forces Group. He was on vacation in the U.S. and had rented the car in Colorado.
It is not known if he drove the vehicle to the hotel entrance and detonated fireworks and fuel tanks. The identity of the driver who died has not yet been established. As a result of the explosion, seven people also sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
Explosion in Las Vegas: Joe Biden on the investigation
President Joe Biden stated that investigators are examining whether the explosion is connected to a New Year’s attack by an ISIS sympathizer in New Orleans.
The attacker from New Orleans was a former soldier who, similarly to the man who rented the Tesla, also rented an electric pickup truck (Ford F-150 Lightning) using the same mobile app, Turo.
