Cool down this summer: Why mint tea is your best thirst-quencher
In May, when I was planting more little bushes of this herb on the balcony, I knew exactly what I was doing. There's no better addition to tea than this when the heat is pouring down from the sky. This type of drink is traditionally consumed in Morocco. It's sweet, refreshing, and quenches thirst like nothing else.
We most often turn to mint when we have digestive issues. It stimulates the secretion of gastric juice and bile, thereby easing stomachaches. However, when it's scorching outside, it's also worth appreciating its cooling and refreshing effects. You can enjoy it in several ways.
What to drink to quench thirst during a heatwave?
During hot weather, many people drink cold beverages. But these only bring brief relief, and soon we feel massively thirsty again. Therefore, during heatwaves, it's best to turn to tea. Loose tea, which is more aromatic, works perfectly. However, even the best leaves need a companion to provide a sense of refreshment. So, add mint sprigs to the brew. This herb contains menthol, which cools and quenches thirst at the same time.
How to make refreshing tea?
Brewing such a drink is simpler than you might think. You can use either black or green tea. Simply brew your favorite tea in a pot or cup and add sprigs of fresh mint (just be sure to rinse them under running water first!).
After brewing, remove the sprigs and sweeten the beverage to taste. Sugar or honey will work. Try to drink the warm brew, but it also tastes great cold. This way, refreshment will come quickly, and your thirst will be quenched for a long time.
What kind of mint to add to tea to quench thirst?
Any type of mint is suitable for teas and brews. The most popular are peppermint and the milder spearmint. You can also commonly find chocolate, ginger, lemon, or curly mint.
New varieties are constantly being developed, highlighting the popularity of this herb. Moroccan mint is used for the famous Moroccan tea. Its aroma is very strong. However, every type of mint contains menthol, making it perfect for beverages on hot days.
