Coca-cola: The surprising solution to kettle scale buildup

Scale buildup in the kettle is a nuisance for many of us. The resulting white residue is not just an aesthetic issue; it can also spoil the taste of your beverage and, over time, shorten the device's lifespan. However, there is a trick that few people know.

The process of scale formation is a natural phenomenon. It happens due to hard water, which contains high concentrations of calcium and magnesium. When the water is heated, the minerals precipitate, forming a deposit. Although the resulting scale layer is not dangerous, it can spoil the taste of our beverages, making them murky. Additionally, the liquid takes significantly longer to boil, resulting in higher electricity bills.

An effective way to remove scale

Instead of using chemical products, choosing home and natural solutions is beneficial. Although the most popular and effective method is vinegar, unfortunately, its smell tends to linger for quite a while. Moreover, before we can use the kettle, we must boil it multiple times. To avoid this, it's worth using a popular carbonated drink that excellently removes stubborn deposits.

Not many people know, but Coca-Cola works great at removing unwanted scale. It's an effective agent that removes deposits and prevents further formation. All thanks to the properties of phosphoric acid, which dissolves and attracts them like a magnet. What's more, Coca-Cola is a cheap alternative to other cleaning methods that can prove effective in many household corners.

How to get rid of scale using Coca-Cola?

To effectively remove unpleasant deposits, simply pour about 10 ounces of Coca-Cola into the kettle (preferably at room temperature). Then, add water so that the drink completely covers the bottom of the kettle. Now, boil the solution, and after that, set the kettle aside for 30 minutes to allow the acid to act on the deposits. During this time, the scale will start to detach on its own. Finally, rinse the kettle with water to remove any drink residue that could affect the water's taste.
