What caused the bridge collapse?
Late on Saturday evening in the Vyhonichy district of the Bryansk region, a tragic accident occurred. The Associated Press cited the Russian Federal Road Transport Agency Rosavtodor, which reported that the overpass running over the railroad tracks collapsed as the passenger train was passing. The train was traveling from Moscow to the town of Klimovo in the Belgorod region.
Bryansk region governor Alexander Bogomaz wrote on Telegram that the collapse of the viaduct onto the railway tracks caused seven fatalities. Thirty people were injured, including two children, and they were transported to medical facilities in the Bryansk region. Two of the injured, including a child, are in serious condition. He added that all necessary assistance is being provided to the victims.
Authorities are working on-site
The Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations immediately responded to the disaster by sending additional forces to the rescue units already at the scene.

The train was traveling from Moscow
The train was on the Moscow-to-Klimovo route. Moscow Railways claims that the bridge collapse in the Bryansk region was the result of "illegal interference".
Russian information channels Baza and SHOT on Telegram, which frequently publish information from security and law enforcement sources, reported that the passenger train had already hit the collapsed bridge. Baza stated that, according to preliminary information, the bridge was blown up. However, there is still no evidence or official information to confirm the explosion theory.
The Bryansk region, bordering Ukraine, is a strategically important area; however, the Ukrainian side has not commented on this incident.
