Russia's tank losses soar: Over 4,000 confirmed destroyed
According to analysts from Oryx, Russia has lost over 4,000 tanks since the beginning of the invasion of Ukraine. The data includes only losses confirmed by visual evidence, so the actual number may be significantly higher. Total equipment losses have exceeded 21,000.
Oryx has been tracking visually confirmed losses of Russian military equipment since the start of the full-scale invasion in February 2022. The group emphasizes that its statistics only include cases confirmed by visual materials, indicating that the actual number of tanks lost by Russia is likely much higher.
21 thousand pieces of equipment. Russia's colossal losses
Many tanks classified as "abandoned" were later destroyed or captured by Ukrainian forces, claim military analysts from Oryx.
If a tank is captured and then destroyed, it is counted only as a loss to the original operator to prevent double-counting. Equipment of unconfirmed origin is not considered.
Since the beginning of Russia's full-scale invasion in February 2022, Oryx has documented visually confirmed losses of a total of 21,550 units of Russian military equipment, including tanks, armored vehicles, artillery systems, and aircraft.
Additional data from the Militarnyi portal indicates that between 2014 and 2021, before the start of the full-scale war, Russian occupying forces lost at least 50 tanks in combat, including T-72B3 models—a modernized version of the Russian main battle tank used by Russia against Ukraine as early as 2014.
Previously, Ukrainian forces had destroyed the latest Russian heavy flamethrower system, TOS-2 "Tosochka", in the Pokrovsk area. Photos taken by Russian soldiers show the destroyed launcher after being hit by an unidentified weapon. Before its destruction, this system was used in attacks on Ukrainian defensive positions.
