Banana waffles made easy: A sugar-free recipe to savor
Banana waffles with no added sugar? Yes, please! I'm sharing a recipe for exceptional banana waffles without any added sugar. They’re naturally sweet, fluffy on the inside, and perfectly crisp on the outside — all thanks to ripe bananas doing all the hard work. You won’t miss the sugar — promise!
Bananas are one of my favorite fruits. I always buy them when I crave something sweet but want to avoid processed foods. I usually eat them as a quick snack, but they also serve as a great base for various baked goods or pancakes. Whenever I remember that my waffle iron is sitting unused in the kitchen, I quickly fire it up and prepare banana waffle batter. Their natural sweetness means I don't have to add any white sugar.
Banana waffle recipe
To prepare these waffles, you'll need a waffle iron and a banana, as you can modify many of the other ingredients to suit your tastes. You can easily substitute spelt flour for wheat flour, and instead of oil, you can use melted butter. Baking powder will help the batter rise, making the waffles fluffy and smooth. I recommend using a vanilla-flavored plant-based milk instead of regular milk to enhance their taste and aroma. Decorate the waffles to your liking, for example, with whipped cream, fruits, or maple syrup.
Ingredients:
- 1 ripe banana
- 7 oz wheat flour
- 1.35 fl oz oil
- 1 egg
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- Pinch of cinnamon
- 5 fl oz milk
- Powdered sugar
- Whipped cream
Preparation:
- Mash the peeled banana with a fork.
- Add flour, oil, egg, baking powder, cinnamon, and milk.
- Mix everything with a whisk until the ingredients are combined. Let the batter sit for 10 minutes to puff up.
- Heat the waffle iron and pour the batter onto it.
- Serve the finished waffles with whipped cream or sprinkle them with powdered sugar.
