SUVs and electrification are now priorities for most brands, including premium ones, causing less popular segments to become casualties of this shift. A prime example is the classic coupe and convertible, whose numbers are dwindling at an increasing rate.
The Audi A5 Coupe and its convertible version are unofficially set to join the list of interesting models that will soon disappear from showrooms. The Germans are not particularly vocal about this decision, merely stating that the A5 lineup for 2025 will include the A5 Sportback, S5 Sportback, and RS5 Sportback. Two important versions are missing.
Audi's lineup will lack a cabrio or coupe for the first time in decades, and enthusiasts for such vehicles will need to turn to competitors like BMW or Mercedes. Meanwhile, Audi will focus on SUVs, which are more profitable than models with classic body styles. Another key goal remains electrification, though it won't be easy.
So far, electric vehicles are not selling as well as anticipated, posing unique challenges for the industry. A few days ago, information emerged that Audi is considering ending production of the Q8 e-tron and closing the factory in Brussels.
