Albania's workforce exodus: A nation's economic challenge
According to the latest data from the International Organization for Migration (IOM), about 40% of Albania’s workforce has emigrated for a better life. Even workers with low qualifications are leaving.
The IOM report indicates that a significant portion of Albania’s workforce is employed in other countries, negatively impacting the Albanian economy.
A report highlighted that businesses in Albania are increasingly losing employees, not only in low-skilled sectors but also in highly qualified professions.
IOM experts identify key drivers of emigration as widespread poverty, wage gaps between countries, corruption, and a system in which job opportunities are not always based on merit.
People are fleeing Albania. The country has a serious problem
The organization emphasized Albania and Moldova are the two European countries most affected by this issue.
Experts quoted by Euronews pointed out that the number of foreign workers registered in Albania continues to grow each year. Foreigners are expected to fill the gap caused by mass emigration, with over 13,000 registered in 2024.
