Zelensky seeks European arms industry unity, praises Sweden's defense help amid Russian threat
The three-day conference began on Sunday afternoon. Zelensky inaugurated the meeting, and the guest of honor was King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden.
"Our mutual solidarity can halt Russia," emphasized the Ukrainian President. He further assured that Ukraine will not tolerate any form of occupation. "I still believe in our ability to defeat Russia," he added.
Zelensky thanked Sweden for the supplied weaponry, mentioning the Archer artillery system. "Your contribution has saved the lives of our soldiers," he noted.
In response to a question about Ukraine's current situation, Zelensky referred to it as "stable," albeit still lacking sufficient military equipment to detract Russia from achieving air superiority. He acknowledged that the aid received has thus far thwarted 70% of the 500 recent attacks.
The Ukrainian president also supported Sweden's membership in the North Atlantic Treaty. "I hope the Turkish parliament will approve Sweden's admission into NATO," he stated.
Sweden's proposed NATO membership: "A new sketch of European security policy"
The proposed NATO membership for Sweden was a predominant topic in the address given by the Swedish Foreign Minister, Tobias Billstroem.
"Our membership would redefine the security policy landscape in our region of Europe. He emphasized that Sweden should play an active role in supporting defense and security along NATO's border with Russia and elsewhere, such as the southern border of Europe and the Arctic," he emphasized.
Billstroem cautioned, "We must anticipate that Russia will pose a considerable threat to the security of Sweden and Europe soon."
"Our foreign policy's primary task continues to be providing military and economic support for Ukraine," added the minister.
