Zelensky calls on Rubio to witness Ukraine's wartime reality
Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky invited U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio to visit Ukraine to witness firsthand the effects of Russian aggression. The invitation was in response to Rubio's suggestions regarding the need for concessions to achieve peace.
President Zelensky stressed that Ukraine's historical heritage, which has suffered from Russian attacks, will never fully return to its original state. He acknowledged that restoration is possible but will not be the same as before. He also asserted that Russia should be held financially accountable for the destruction.
In mid-January, Marco Rubio presented his vision of diplomacy in the Senate, claiming that the war must end. "What Vladimir Putin has done is unacceptable, but the war must end," Rubio said. He noted that this would require "bold diplomacy" and concessions from both sides.
"Ukraine has gone back 100 years"
Rubio expressed the opinion that the previous U.S. administration was dishonest in suggesting that Ukraine could not only defeat Russia but also destroy it. Ukraine has gone back 100 years, said the U.S. Secretary of State at that time, emphasizing that the country’s energy system is being destroyed.
In response to these statements, Zelensky invited Rubio to Ukraine to see the consequences of Russian aggression. "I think he needs to see what Russia has done," said President Zelensky in an interview with the Associated Press.
Zelensky's invitation is not just a diplomatic gesture but also an attempt to draw attention to Ukraine's real problems. The President emphasizes that rebuilding the country will require enormous financial resources and international support.
