Russian media have announced the passing of Yevgeny Mikhailovich Putin. According to the IvanoNews service, Vladimir Putin's cousin celebrated his 90th birthday at the end of February. The details surrounding his death are currently unclear.
A closer look at the Putin family's connections
Until 2002, Yevgeny Putin and his family resided in Ivanovo. Following Vladimir Putin's rise to power, they relocated to Moscow and settled in Suzdal. Renowned for his work as a urologist between 1970 and 1990, Yevgeny Putin is credited with significantly improving his patients' health. Nevertheless, international reports often highlight their familial connections rather than their professional achievements.
Yevgeny's son, Mikhail, is a vice president on Gazprom's board, an association that a Kremlin spokesman once referred to when he called him a "distant relative" of Vladimir Putin. Dmitry Peskov has stated that the president does not maintain contact with him.
Yevgeny's daughter, Anna, holds the title of the wife of the Kemerovo region's governor and owns significant shares in one of Russia's major coal companies, which she acquired from her husband in 2018.
Yevgeny Mikhailovich Putin's funeral was held on Sunday, March 10.
