Yemen erupts after US airstrikes stir deadly protests
Massive protests erupted in Yemen after American airstrikes on Saturday. As a result of these actions, at least 53 people were killed, and around 100 were injured. Protesters, armed with rifles and carrying banners, are chanting slogans such as "Death to America, Death to Israel." Reuters reported this information.
The protests are taking place in areas controlled by Yemeni Houthi rebels, including cities such as Sana, Saada, Dhamar, Hodeida, and Amran.
The United States has launched a new offensive against the Houthis, who have carried out over 100 attacks on ships in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden since the fall of 2023. These actions have disrupted transportation on a sea route crucial for the global economy.
This is the largest U.S. military operation in the Middle East since Donald Trump took office in January 2025. In response to American actions, the Houthis announced that they attacked the U.S. aircraft carrier USS Harry S. Truman and its accompanying ships with missiles and a drone.
Pentagon Response
An anonymous Pentagon official told Reuters that American fighter jets shot down 11 drones belonging to the rebels. Yemeni Houthi rebels are considered a terrorist organization by the West. The Houthis emphasize that their airstrikes target ships associated with Israel, and by attacking them, they support Palestinian Hamas in the Gaza Strip.
