What sets the new Xiaomi lock apart is its sophisticated identification system that relies on finger veins, offering a more accurate level of security than traditional fingerprint scanners. The Smart Door Lock 2 Finger Vein Version, now available for pre-sale in China, supports up to ten unlocking methods. These include NFC, password entry, Bluetooth, and a physical key. The manufacturer points out that the device's recognition accuracy is exceptionally high, with an error rate of merely 0.0001%, marking a notable advancement from prior models.

How much does the Xiaomi Smart Door Lock 2 cost?

Xiaomi has introduced its latest lock at a promotional price of 1299 yuan, roughly equivalent to $182, initially requiring a deposit of 100 yuan, or about $14. Following the pre-sale, the price will rise to 1499 yuan, approximately $210. Beyond its advanced security features, the lock boasts a silent locking mechanism, an alarm, and a battery life extending up to a year on a single charge. Users can check the lock's status remotely via the Xiaomi app, ensuring smooth integration with the HyperOS smart home system, as noted by Notebookcheck.

Are such locks safe?

Biometrics, the technology for identifying individuals based on unique physical or behavioral traits, is increasingly deployed across various domains, from security systems to mobile gadgets and banking. While biometrics can offer a robust security layer, it's crucial to acknowledge potential vulnerabilities. To maximize security, biometrics should ideally be used with other security measures.
