Xiaomi introduces an eco‑friendly exercise bike that charges your phone

Imagine that you generate enough energy to charge your phone while exercising on a stationary bike at home. Sounds intriguing, right? This is the innovation that Xiaomi is bringing to the market.

Although the concept is not new—bikes with dynamos that allow phone charging have been around for years, like those in Warsaw’s Złote Tarasy—the new offering from Xiaomi, the Mi Home Dynamic Bicycle Self-Powered Edition, allows you to have such a device in your own home at a relatively low cost.

Xiaomi's stationary bike will charge your phone. Actually, you'll do it

Xiaomi has priced its stationary bike at 1,799 yuan, which translates to just over $250. It's an attractive price, considering you get exercise equipment and a fast charger in one. You only need to pedal at a speed of at least 60 rotations per minute to power your phone, providing up to 20 watts of power.

The bike is powered by the energy you generate during your workout and features a control panel displaying key information. It's worth noting that the bike has a 32-level resistance adjustment, a quiet magnetically constructed disk, and a hidden flywheel. The unit weighs less than 88 pounds and can be integrated with other Xiaomi smart home devices, such as an air conditioner.

Will the bike be available in the United States?

The idea is not only interesting but also useful. It may encourage an active lifestyle while reducing power consumption and the risk of your phone's battery suddenly draining. Unfortunately, it is unknown when the Xiaomi Mi Home Dynamic Bicycle Self-Powered Edition will be available in the United States.
