Xi urges dialogue over discord as Trump extends olive branch
The leader of China, Xi Jinping, wrote a letter to the US-China Business Council (USCBC), emphasizing that economic and trade disputes "harm both" parties. He suggested that it's essential to "should choose dialogue over confrontation, and win-win cooperation over zero-sum games."
Xi's letter was sent for the annual USCBC gala, held on December 11. The US-China Business Council is a private, non-profit organization based in the USA, comprising over 270 American companies operating in China.
According to Xi, China's relationship with the USA is "are an important part of bilateral relations, Xi said, noting the interests of the two countries are closely intertwined, and the room for cooperation is infinitely vast."
He emphasized that in bilateral relations, one should "choose dialogue instead of confrontation and engage in mutually beneficial cooperation, rather than a zero-sum game."
Beijing sends a signal to the USA. Trump responds with an invitation
CBS News reports that US President-elect Donald Trump has invited Xi Jinping to his presidential inauguration, scheduled for January 20 in Washington D.C. However, it remains unclear whether the Chinese leader has accepted the invitation.
Xi last visited the USA in November 2023, attending the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit in San Francisco, where he met with President Joe Biden.
The last meeting between Xi and Trump occurred in June 2019 during the G20 summit in Japan.
