World's richest man Elon Musk ditches luxury for $50k Texas home amid Mars mission dreams

Elon Musk is currently ranked as the wealthiest man in the world. Contrary to what one might expect, he doesn't live in an extravagant mansion, fitting for a man of his wealth. A couple of years ago, Musk revealed his intentions to sell all of his properties, with the long-term goal of establishing a human colony on Mars.

Since making this revelation, five of Musk's properties have been listed for sale. The most recent sold in 2021 for an astounding $30 million. Musk's biographer took a peek inside the typical abode of the world's richest man.

Elon Musk trades his mansions for a compact, modular home

In 2020, Musk made the decision to sell five of his expansive estates and acquired this modest, two-bedroom home in Boca Chica, Texas, where I had the chance to visit him. During my visit, he was seated at a wooden table, engaged in a phone call - wrote Walter Isaacson on Platform X.

In the photo shared by Isaacson, Musk's coffee table can be seen adorned with a katana, a rocket-shaped figurine, and an assortment of games. A poster for the science fiction magazine "Amazing Stories" is visible hanging above the kitchen table.

Another photograph, this time shared by Musk himself, shows that his nightstand features a selection of soda cans, two gun replicas, a lamp, and a wooden box.
