Woman arrested at Auckland Airport after $1400 heist and assault

A rare incident occurred at Auckland Airport in New Zealand. A woman attempted to steal items valued at over $1400 NZD (over 1300 USD) and didn't hesitate to attack a staff member.

The incident took place late in the evening, around 6:30 PM Eastern Time. Police officers patrolling Auckland Airport noticed a woman attempting to leave the store with a cart full of unpaid items.

The woman was arrested

Senior Sergeant Pickering said that the cart contained items worth over $1400, and the accused also carried a weapon. - Our officers quickly arrived at the scene and arrested the woman. He explained that she also did not meet the conditions qualifying her for bail release.

Police officers reported that the woman also attacked a staff member with a fake weapon. The store employee sustained minor injuries as a result of the attack.

- In recent months, the police have deployed two vehicles to the Auckland Airport shopping center and its vicinity, which helps us prevent such incidents in the area, Pickering explained.
