Are we back in 2008? Not really — it's just a surge of nostalgia. We're witnessing a period in pop culture that could aptly be termed as the golden era of prequels, sequels, and an array of reboots. Does this indicate a decline in original productions, or a slump in the market? Not at all. Instead, it sparks a celebration for Gen Z and millennials who grew up watching these returning productions, ready to retake the world stage.
"Wizards of Waverly Place" is a flagship series of the Disney Channel. The show revolves around the adventures of three siblings — Alex (Selena Gomez), Justin (David Henrie), and Max (Jake T. Austin). The Russo family possesses magical abilities, but they are forced to keep this a secret from the world.
"Wizards of Waverly Place" reboots with the original cast
The Disney Channel has announced that they've green-lit the pilot episode for the new season of "Wizards of Waverly Place." The executive producers for the series are none other than Selena Gomez and David Henrie, also on-screen as the Russo siblings, Alex and Justin.
The revival of "Wizards of Waverly Place" will highlight the narrative of Justin, the eldest of the Russo siblings. Having given up magic to lead a normal life with his family, Justin's ordinary life dramatically changes one day. He finds himself tasked with training a young witch while the magical world teeters on the brink of danger. Will Justin rise to the challenge?
David Henrie will reprise his role as the eldest Russo sibling, and Selena Gomez confirmed that she will also be returning to the reboot. The show is directed by Andy Fickman. However, an official release date for the new "Wizards of Waverly Place" has not yet been announced.
