According to the National Weather Service (NWS), blizzard warnings have been issued to over 4 million people in Kansas, Nebraska, and Missouri.
Travel is also hazardous on roads in Kentucky and Indiana. At Blue Grass Airport in Lexington, all departures and arrivals have been canceled in Kentucky.
Washington, Baltimore, and Philadelphia are among the major cities preparing for extreme snowy and icy conditions expected in the coming days. School closures have been announced in Washington. In some parts of Virginia, snowfall is forecasted to exceed 12 inches.
Problems in the Southern part of the country
Arkansas, Louisiana, and Mississippi are grappling with storms, severe frost, and temperatures that many residents in the South are not accustomed to. In certain regions of Mississippi, a tornado warning was in effect for part of Sunday.
According to the electricity distributor Poweroutage.US, about 80,000 customers in the South and Midwest were without power. Approximately 30,000 of these are in Missouri, 18,000 in Texas, and more than 10,500 in Louisiana, Kentucky, and Illinois.
