Windows 11 insider update brings new features and key fixes

Windows 11 testers on the Dev channel receive update KB5043185, which introduces numerous new features. The system now has new functionalities and fixes, although not all will be immediately visible to everyone. Some are gradually activated server-side.

There are a multitude of fixes and new features, and all this should be just a glimpse of the changes that are being prepared as part of the "big" Windows 11 update - version 24H2, which we expect to be released in the fall. Microsoft is already lifting the veil of secrecy, and the most interested users can check out the new options themselves in the Insider program.

The most important new features in update KB5043185 include the division into "recent," "favorites," and "shared" files on the main screen of File Explorer, the ability to control media from the lock screen, simplified notifications on the taskbar, the option to share files directly from the system search when a file appears as a result, and visually refreshed delivery optimization settings. These are still just some of the fixes.

Simultaneously, update KB5043185 removes several Windows 11 errors. One is the unjustified 0x800f0993 error during update installation attempts within the Insider program. Additionally, the update removes, among other things, a glitch causing the taskbar to display twice and enhances DNS-related security.

Despite removing some bugs, new ones have also appeared in the system, which should not be surprising in a testing program. Microsoft mentions a new 0x800f0983 error that may occur while installing the described Windows 11 build. According to Microsoft, retrying the installation should yield results (although it may appear "stuck" at 0 percent progress, the manufacturer suggests waiting for it to complete).
