So, how exactly do you express to someone that they mean the world to you? In my view, gifting them something handmade, something that truly shows the effort you've put into it, is the best approach. If this gift can also be savored later, even better. The old adage "the way to a man's heart is through his stomach" did not sprout up randomly.

For this Valentine's Day, why not prepare a spectacular cake made in three colors for your loved one? Here's how: simply utilize the Neapolitan cake motif. Don't confuse this with making a pizza dough though! This decadent dessert is composed of a delightful mosaic of different colors and flavors - vanilla, chocolate, and strawberry. To top it off, a heart-shaped embellishment is the crowning touch, and it can be created in no time.

Fancy homemade tricolor cake with hearts for Valentine's Day

Ingredients:

  • 5 eggs,
  • 1 cup of sugar,
  • About 2.6 cups of wheat flour,
  • 2 teaspoons of baking powder,
  • 1 cup of oil,
  • 1 cup of Sprite,
  • 3 teaspoons of wheat flour (split into two parts),
  • 1.5 teaspoons of cocoa,
  • pink food coloring.

How to make it:

Step 1. Begin the recipe by dividing the egg whites from the yolks. Whisk the whites into a stiff froth, then gradually add the fine sugar. Do the same thing with the yolks.

Step 2. Add the following to your bowl: flour, baking powder, oil, and Sprite. This fizzy beverage will render your homemade cake pleasantly fluffy and moist while contributing interesting flavor notes.

Step 3. Divide the resulting dough into three parts. To the first portion add 1.5 teaspoons of cocoa; to the second, 1.5 teaspoons of flour; to the third, 1.5 teaspoons of flour along with pink food coloring.

And voilà, you've created a tricolor dough that's ready for the oven.

Step 4. Line a round baking pan with paper, then begin to pour in the brown, white, and pink dough in sequence.

Step 5. Create a second layer using the white mixture. A pastry bag can be a real game changer at this stage. With the pink dough, make small blobs all over the surface, and then fashion those into heart shapes with a small knife.

The cake should then be baked for 60 minutes in an oven preheated to 350°F.

Step 6. Garnish the ready cake with powdered sugar. Homemade frosting or chocolate sauce also work well as an added touch. Bon appétit!
