Available on the market since 2015, the Audi R8 is slowly ending its market life. The matter of a successor has been raising significant doubts for some time, but for the first time in a while, we can hear optimistic reports.

The Audi R8 is one of the most interesting supercars on the market. A V10 unit, light weight hovering around 1500 kg, and the characteristics geared towards the joy of driving - it's not surprising that this model has managed to gather a legion of enthusiasts. The same enthusiasts who sadly watch the last campaign of Audi, which is centered around the farewell of the R8.

This car will take its last lap and it's the fans who will decide the terms on which it will take place. However, in the background, there are still major doubts about whether the legendary German model will get its direct continuation, and if so, in what form. We are being fed with numerous new pieces of information by the Autocar service, which in its latest article presents a handful of news about the R8 successor.

According to information from the portal, the Volkswagen Group is currently working on a new platform named SSP, which is expected to be ready by 2027. Based on this very platform, Audi is to work on an architecture adapted to cars characterized by low output, strong performance, and an electric drive. All this in order to be able to present the successor of the R8 as quickly as possible.

This is another source confirming that if the R8 hits the market, it will be electric. According to Volkswagen, the SPP platform is supposed to be capable of handling units generating power up to 1700 HP. It’s additional advantage is also supposed to be its universality. Potentially, the SPP can handle a very broad range of models in terms of size - from cars with dimensions similar to an Audi TT to giants in the style of a Porsche Cayenne.
