Wicked: Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande soar in new Oz Tale

Wicked is an electrifying tale about the extraordinary friendship between Elphaba (the Wicked Witch of the West) and Glinda (the Good Witch). In this untold story of the witches of Oz, we will see Cynthia Erivo, an Emmy, Grammy, and Tony award winner, as Elphaba and Ariana Grande as Glinda.

Elphaba, notable for her green skin, has yet to discover her true power. In the role of Glinda, we will see Grammy award-winning superstar Ariana Grande, who is also on a journey to find her true heart.

Both protagonists are students at Shiz University in the fantastic Land of Oz and form a deep friendship. However, after meeting the Wizard of Oz, their friendship reaches a crossroads, leading them down entirely different paths.

Glinda desires popularity and dreams of power, while Elphaba remains true to herself and those around her. Elphaba's stance, however, will have unexpected consequences for her future. Through extraordinary adventures in the Land of Oz, they eventually fulfill their destinies as the Good Witch of the South and the Wicked Witch of the West.

This feature-length adaptation of the untold story of the Witches of Oz will be directed by the dynamic Jon M. Chu (Crazy Rich Asians). Wicked, based on the bestselling novel by Gregory Maguire, has been adapted for the screen by screenwriter Winnie Holzman and legendary Oscar®-winning (The Prince of Egypt) composer and lyricist Stephen Schwartz.

The film will be released in theaters on December 6, 2024.
