We charge many everyday devices. Without them, we couldn't use our phones, tablets, e-book readers, or even many watches and headphones.
Usually, chargers operate without issue, but there are also dangerous instances. Should the fact that the charger is heating cause us concern?
It is normal for a charger to heat up when connected to a phone or other device. Alternating current reaches the plug, which then changes to direct current and thus powers the device. This change requires energy, which is released in the form of heat.
The charger heats up significantly. What to do?
However, if the device is alarmingly hot, it does not bode well. What should we do in such a situation? It is best to immediately disconnect the charger from the power source and the device. Otherwise, it could lead to a short circuit or even a fire.
What could be the causes of excessive charger heating? There are at least a few, and among the most common are:
- Damaged charging port in the phone or a malfunctioning device
- Damaged charger or its components – e.g., the block or cable
- Charging in an inappropriate location – e.g., without access to air
- Lack of compatibility between the charger and the device
Remember to buy chargers only from reputable sellers and with all the necessary certifications. Otherwise, it could end very badly for us.
