Whatsapp adds double-tap reaction for messages and new video filters

WhatsApp will soon introduce a new way to react to messages, a well-known feature from other messaging platforms like Messenger and Instagram. This new feature involves quickly double-tapping a message in the chat to send a default reaction. WhatsApp's creators are currently testing this solution.

WABetaInfo, which is analyzing WhatsApp 2.24.16.7 Beta for Android, highlights details. Quick reactions triggered by double-tapping a selected message in the chat are a familiar feature from other messengers and social media platforms. For instance, you can send "hearts" this way in Messenger; on Instagram, you can react similarly to typical posts.

WhatsApp previously tested similar ways of reacting to multimedia messages. Text messages, however, are new territory in this context. WABetaInfo mentions that the feature is currently in an early stage of development and is not yet available even to all WhatsApp beta testers. It's unclear when it will be included in the stable release, but it's evident that once it is, reacting with a double tap will not be disabled via settings.

Simultaneously, WhatsApp is testing new filters and AR overlays that can be used during video calls. This option is also currently available only to selected beta testers. Eventually, users can smooth the image using these simple options or use night mode, enhancing the transmitted video quality during calls made in challenging lighting conditions.

Both new features are not yet ready for widespread use in WhatsApp beta versions. Users will need to be patient and await their inclusion in the stable version of the messenger in the coming weeks and months.
