Wentworth Miller's "Prison Break" comeback surges on Netflix

"Prison Break" is a hit again. Yes, it's no mistake. After several years, the series with Wentworth Miller landed on Netflix and immediately found itself in the TOP 10. Who remembers how the star's confession about his sexual orientation echoed around the world?

"Prison Break" primarily promoted the talents of two great stars – Wentworth Miller and Dominic Purcell. Purcell played a convict from the Fox River facility who ended up there for a crime he didn't commit. Miller portrayed the now-iconic character Michael Scofield, an engineer determined to save his brother from death. When he learns that his brother is in the facility his firm renovated, he devises a plan to break him out. He tattoos the prison's layout on his body, researches the histories of inmates, and then robs a bank to get caught and sent to Fox River. The series, which broadcasters initially hesitated to release, became a smash hit.

Wentworth Miller reveals he is gay

Now, after years, the series is back on top. This happened recently when it was added to Netflix's library, allowing viewers to take a nostalgic trip down memory lane. Netflix also features the cult hit "Lost," previously available on Disney+. Older series have not lost their charm.

Let's remember that Miller was already a big star when, in 2013, he was invited to attend a film festival in St. Petersburg. The 41-year-old actor, who had never publicly discussed his private life, especially his sexual orientation, decided to write a letter to the festival director. This letter was published by GLAAD, an organization that advocates for the rights and fair representation of non-heteronormative individuals in media and films.

"As someone who has enjoyed visiting Russia in the past and can also claim a degree of Russian ancestry, it would make me happy to say yes. However, as a gay man, I must decline," he wrote, shocking many people.

"I am deeply troubled by the current attitude toward and treatment of gay men and women by the Russian government," and did not want to attend a festival in a country where "people like myself are being systematically denied their basic right to live and love openly," the actor said.

At that time, Vladimir Putin had changed the law in Russia, banning homosexual couples from adopting children. Shortly before, the authorities classified "homosexual propaganda" as pornography, which was then fined and punished with arrest.

After starring in "Prison Break," Wentworth Miller appeared in "Resident Evil: Afterlife" and took a break from show business for a few years. As he revealed, he chose to take a short retirement. When photos comparing his fit and muscular body from the past with newer photos showing him weighing more surfaced, he decided to write a long post. He revealed that he had quit acting for several reasons, one of which was suicidal thoughts.

"In 2010, semi-retired from acting, I was keeping a low-profile for a number of reasons. But at the time, I suffered in silence. As so many do. The extent of my struggle known to very, very few. Ashamed and in pain, I considered myself damaged goods. And the voices in my head urged me down the path to self-destruction. Not for the first time. I've struggled with depression since childhood. It's a battle that's cost me time, opportunities, relationships, and a thousand sleepless nights," he wrote when people criticized his appearance.

"In 2010, at the lowest point in my adult life, I was looking everywhere for relief/comfort/distraction. And I turned to food. It could have been anything. But eating became the one thing I could look forward to. Count on to get me through. There were stretches when the highlight of my week was a favorite meal and a new episode of TOP CHEF. Sometimes that was enough. Had to be. And I put on weight," he wrote and admitted that when his "unflattering" photos started circulating in the media, he barely survived it.

Since 2014, Wentworth Miller has appeared in new productions. He can be seen in the film The Loft, the lesser-known Superhero Fight Club, and the series Legends of Tomorrow. In 2017, he filmed Prison Break: Sequel, and in 2018, he appeared in The Flash.
