Chaturong Suksuk, 29, and Kanchana Pachunthuek, 44, were married on Saturday in Northeastern Thailand, according to the BBC who cited police information. Reports say the husband abruptly left the wedding hall, returning with a gun, then shot his wife, her 62-year-old mother, and 38-year-old sister. Two guests were also hit with the bullets, one of whom later died in the hospital. Shortly after, Suksuk committed suicide.
The police reported that the 29-year-old was intoxicated during the crime. He had legally bought the firearm and ammunition the previous year. Though the exact motive is unknown, Thai media suggest there had been an argument between the couple during the reception based on accounts from the guests.
It's also noted that Suksuk may have been grappling with insecurities about the significant age gap between him and his wife, but the police have cautioned this is mere speculation. Authorities are compiling the evidence and the investigation is projected to conclude shortly, according to a police source quoted by the BBC.
Thai media reports say that Chaturong and Kanchana had been cohabiting for three years. Suksuk, who became disabled during his military service, won a silver medal in swimming at the ASEAN Paralympic Games in Indonesia last year. His military service was spent in the light infantry, patrolling Thailand's borders.
