Tragedy in Washington
A passenger plane collided in the air with a Sikorsky H-60 Black Hawk helicopter during its approach to the runway. Both aircraft fell into the river.
As a result of the collision, 64 passengers on the plane and three soldiers on board the helicopter were killed.
An investigation is underway to clarify all circumstances of the disaster. The crew of the crashed Black Hawk helicopter was experienced and was performing an annual night flying check, as informed by the new Pentagon chief Pete Hegseth. He announced that the initiated investigation will determine whether the helicopter was on the correct flight path.
According to media reports and aviation experts, the aviation disaster in Washington could have been caused by systemic negligence over the years. They primarily point to exhausted air traffic controllers and an increase in the number of flights.
