Washington and Moscow to hold more talks on Ukraine crisis
Following the meeting in Saudi Arabia, Washington and Moscow plan to continue their discussions. Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov announced that a second meeting of delegations from both countries is scheduled to occur within the next two weeks.
Ryabkov noted that both sides have agreed to engage in another round of consultations to address "a whole range of irritating issues." He added that the discussions with the USA involve Ukraine and bilateral matters. It is also likely that representatives from the USA and Russia will talk about the situation in the Middle East.
- Dialogue on strategic stability and arms control will be possible when we see visible improvements in U.S. policy - stated Ryabkov.
The meeting will take place in a third country, although its location has not yet been disclosed.
Russia returns to the game. Americans broke the isolation
The first high-level meeting between the USA and Russia since the beginning of the war in Ukraine was held on February 18 in the capital of Saudi Arabia, Riyadh. No specific decisions were announced following the talks, but there were expressions of a willingness to cooperate between the USA and Russia in various areas.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that the talks in Riyadh were a preliminary step rather than official negotiations, and that Ukraine and Europe will participate when the official discussions commence.
U.S. President Donald Trump mentioned on February 12 that he anticipates meeting with Russian leader Vladimir Putin, possibly in Saudi Arabia, but did not specify a date.
